At Ballen Harbor, you will find a Blue Flag beach. The beach is child-friendly and also has a modern bathing jetty.

The harbor offers a service quay, a mast crane, and a slipway, which can be used by arrangement and for a fee.

West of the harbor lies the Syltemae Valley, which offers beautiful hiking opportunities.

Several divers depart from Ballen Harbor in connection with the ferry M/F Ærøsund, which after a controlled sinking in October 2014 now rests on the seabed as an artificial reef, benefiting both fish and divers.
