At Drejø you will find lots of activities for children (and the young at heart). The big attraction for children at the harbour is a raft where they can pull themselves to a buoy and play Robinson Crusoe, bathe, catch crabs or bask in the sun with their sweethearts.
We would like to hear about your visit to our port: Evaluate your visit to Drejø Havn.
Large fitness area and playground for young and old
A little inland is a highly popular fitness area and playground for young and old.
The bathing beach by the harbour is very nice – but the very best (think Caribbean standard) bathing beach with a bathing jetty is Bækskilde. There is a path from the playground to the beach, it is a 10-minute walk.
In the community house at the harbour you will find “Kram Krabben”, - “Hug the Crab” – that provides shrimp nets, buckets, magnifiers, painting utensils and felt-tip pens for stone painting. The activities are organized by Svendborg Harbour and may be used free of charge.
Nice harbour amenities
Drejø’s new harbour is easy to enter. In peak season, the harbour is densely packed – at that point, around 40 visiting vessels can fit in there. The harbour may be ‘full’ late in the day – but there are nice anchoring spots outside the harbour, used by catamarans, among others.
At the harbour you will find tables and benches and several large barbecues. There is a community house where sailors can get together. The facility building has been completely renovated with a family shower room, facilities for the disabled, kitchen and laundry room.
Go exploring – jump onto a bicycle
Do not leave Drejø without taking a trip around the island – if you have not brought your own bicycles, you can rent some. There is a nice route from the harbour through Drejø By – enjoy the cosy village atmosphere, a bit peculiar and quirky.
From here, go across the entire island from east to west – across the narrow isthmus Drejet – “The Turn”.
When you have reached the end of the road, you will find yourself at Drejø’s most popular excursion spot, Klinten – “The Cliff” – far out on the west side of the island. On a clear night, the sunset is beyond compare, and you will see an incredible vista with a view to Als.
Drejet is a large natural resort where close to 60 bird species breed. Please note the restrictions during breeding season. Drejø church is worth a visit, with its beautiful location to the south with a view to Ærø. It was built in 1535 and renovated in 2010.
Food and drink
You can buy provisions at the grocery store. There are several seasonal eateries, among them Spiseladen – “The Eatery Barn” – with its cosy café atmosphere. Kræmmerhuset – “The Ice Cream Cone” – sells interesting produce and offers picnic baskets for your explorations (order ahead), coffee and cake, sandwiches and beverages. The inn caters to parties and also sells fast food.
If you wish to try the local fresh island produce or are on the lookout for jumble sale items, visit the farm shops. Here you can also buy island-fresh meat from Galloway cattle and lambs that have lived their lives in the fresh island air with a beautiful sea view.
