Voderup Klint, Ærø (Voderup Cliff)

The terraces on Voderup Klint are formed by earth slides caused by the cliff’s special composition of blue-green cyprine clay. Cyprine is the name of the Icelandic clam of which remains can be found in the clay that settled in the sea that use to cover Denmark approximately 100,000 years ago – between the two ice ages.

The cliff is a preserved area and designated as a special scenic and geological reserve. During the summer months, grazing cattle take care of the conservation of the area – and no spraying of fertilizer is used. The cliff is accessible to the public.
