Marked hiking trails in Horsens

In Horsens, it is easy to find natural surroundings close to the city and scenic paths ideal for hiking. The city is home to two of the so-called "Heart Trails" (Hjertestier) – signposted walking routes developed by the Heart Association. Both trails feature nature, green oases, and convenient ways to fit daily exercise into your routine. The routes are short enough to suit a busy schedule and can easily be combined with other experiences in Horsens.

The Heart Trail in eastern Horsens

This trail guides you around the district of Stensballe in the north-eastern part of Horsens. You can choose between an 8.4 km or a shorter 5.4 km route. The route follows Horsens Fjord on the Husodde Path, which offers lovely views across the water. You will pass the popular bathing beach, Husodde Strand, where there is a kiosk offers cold drinks and ice cream. From there, a wide, grassy path leads on to Stensballegaard Golf Club and from there to Nørrestrand.

It is a varied trail that takes in coast, beach, and wildlife reserve.

If you opt for the shorter version, the walk does not include Nørrestrand but forms a circular route through the eastern part of Stensballe around Husodde Beach. Instead, it follows part of the extensive path network that characterises the charming residential areas in Stensballe.

The Heart Trail Horsens North

The trail in northern Horsens is a circular route around and Caroline Amalie Lund Park, covering 5.3 km.

The historic city park Caroline Amalie Lund is home to Horsens Art Museum, Horsens Museum, a lovely playground, and several sculptures. There is parking available here and the option to explore the park after your walk.

From here, the route continues via the steep Carolinelundsvej, the Solbakken allotment gardens, and the Forum Horsens stadium, before reaching the paths at Nørrestrand on the northern edge of the city. In this nature reserve, you will encounter a remarkable richness of flora and fauna – just a few kilometres from the city centre.
