Skælskør is a captivating place with historical houses worthy of preservation and a charming town and harbour environment. Experience the nice atmosphere at the harbour, where you will berth right in the town’s historical centre with cosy stores, sights, arts and crafts.
The entrance to Skælskør Harbour is a sight to see. The distance from the estuary in the Great Belt to Skælskør is around 2.4 nautical miles. The fiord is well marked with leading lights and buoys that bring you up close to places of stunning natural beauty along the shore on your sail to the harbour.
Nice harbour amenities
At the harbour, sailors are welcomed with all the amenities a yachtsman can wish for.
Skælskør Boat Guild are happy to make their sailors’ lounge available to visitors to the harbour, including a fully equipped kitchen, barbecue areas, tables and benches. On the terrace of the sailors’ lounge you can enjoy your packed or cooked goodies with a nice view of the harbour. The harbour has a well-functioning Wi-Fi network. There is a self-operated diesel facility with GTL Fuel at the harbour, payment by credit card. Petrol and gas are available around 1 kilometre (0.6 miles) from the harbour.
Bikes for the entire family
Jump onto a bike and explore the surrounding area. The harbour provides visiting yachtsmen with bikes free of charge. You will find the bikes by the harbour master’s office, and there is a carrier bike as well as both kids’ and adult bikes. Around 3.5 kilometres (2.2 miles) from the harbour, you will find the idyllic Kobæk Beach that has a newly-built bathing jetty with a bathing platform for small children.
Children on board
The harbour recently opened a new playground, and there is a lawn for soccer and games.
Restaurants at the harbour
At the wharf you will find the Restaurant Solsikken, where you can enjoy your meal with a view of the beautiful harbour entrance. If you like fresh fish and smoked products, the fish shop Skælskør Fiskehus is worth a visit.
Provisioning
The town has a lively commercial life, and the bakery is right around the corner. For more extensive provisioning, the nearest supermarket is just 400 meters (0.25 miles) away.
Land excursions
If you sail with children on board, Skælskør Harbour and the surrounding area will be a great experience for the entire family. It is easy to get around; there are bus stops at the harbour with connections to the larger towns Slagelse and Næstved. The station is located around 100 meters (110 yards) from the harbour. The harbour master’s office is happy to offer you inspiration for excursions.
Visit Skælskør Museum or Borreby Castle with its beautiful park, or experience the famous annual ceramics festival. If you like to explore nature, we recommend visiting the bog Borreby Mose, renowned for its abundant bird life, or strap on your hiking boots and experience the idyllic winding hiking paths in the forest Skælskør Lystskov. A special experience is following the old railroad track that has now been paved and enables walking or cycling along the rail system all the way to Næstved and Slagelse.
If you wish to go on longer trips, the viking stronghold Trelleborg, the Forest Tower in Haslev or the Go High high-ropes course at the manor Kragerup Gods are all worth a visit. At the harbour master’s office, we will be happy to help you with contacts for renting a car.
