The oldest shopping centre in Denmark

The first time the word “shopping centre” appeared in writing in Denmark was in the women’s magazine Alt for Damerne in 1953, and the concept soon gained ground: When the layout plan for the town of Espergærde was drawn up in 1960, the centre was already part of the plan. Town planners and architects dreamed of a huge centre of 5,500 m2 that was to service 12,000 local residents. In addition to stores, the centre was also to contain a library, a sick-benefit association, a block of service flats, a church and much more – though it did not quite turn out that way.

Today, the centre has 39 specialised shops and 3 big supermarkets, so you can be sure to find something for any shopper no matter the age! Parking is free at the centre, which is built with narrow outdoor alleys between the stores – perfect for a nice stroll while you study all the stores have to offer.
