Danish chicken-salad championship and royal pastries

In 2016, Danish butchers held their craftsman’s competition at a food fair in Herning. The competition is special because it is the consumers who judge the chicken salad, and that secured butcher Hans Christian Lundgaard of the butcher’s shop Slagter Bagger in Humlebæk the first place.

For the last several years on Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden’s birthday, the bakery Brødsnedkeren on Strandvejen in Humlebæk has delivered a special pretzel-shaped Danish pastry by car to Öland where the royal summer residence is located. King Carl Gustav and Queen Silvia of Sweden even paid a private visit to the bakery on Strandvejen a few years ago.

The baker, Thomas Jørgensen, grew up in Helsingør, but his baking career has taken him far and wide: He has completed several courses in France and other countries and has received the very exclusive and much-coveted Order of Saint Honoré. Only 12 other Danes have received this order since it was founded.

So when you are visiting Slagter Bagger, make time to go by Brødsnedkeren as well. You will not be disappointed! Here, they will serve you baked goods made from scratch and with passion – and worthy of a princess.
