If you're on a sailing holiday in the South Funen Archipelago, treat yourself to a visit to Lohals Harbour.
Here you will find a newly renovated and atmospheric marina with modern sanitary facilities, cozy barbecue areas, an ice cream shop, music, restaurants, a lovely sandy beach, and a maritime playground for young sailors.
Lohals Harbour is located on the west side of Langeland, about 6 km south of Langeland's northern tip. From Lohals Harbour, there is a view of the Funen east coast between Thurø and Nyborg. If you're a fan of world-class sunsets, Lohals Harbour is definitely the place to be.
Excellent Harbour Facilities
Banjen is the name of a newly renovated service building that, in addition to toilet and bathing facilities, includes a sailors' kitchen, storage rooms, as well as a stage and a sailors' lounge with TV, air hockey, and table football. Wifi is free, and there is electricity and water on all piers.
Children Onboard
Lohals Harbour is a great holiday spot for sailing families. Swim in the sea bath with steps, or play in the small saltwater pool, which is 20 cm deep.
Lohals Harbour features a maritime playground and a Blue Flag beach with bathing jetties to the north of the harbour. The dog forest to the south and the troll forest to the north are also worth visiting.
Extra Sleeping Space
If you need extra sleeping space, there are two shelters set up on the north pier, each with up to 4 sleeping places. The price for renting a shelter is 75 DKK per person per night. The shelters must be booked at www.bookenshelter.dk.
Active in Nature
If you enjoy being active in nature, Lohals Harbour offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy, feel, and experience the scenic beauty of Langeland up close. Swim in the sea bath, hop on one of the harbour's bicycles, or lace up your hiking boots. The Archipelago Trail hiking route starts at the marina and leads you down along Langeland's west coast.
Recently, two new routes have been marked, also starting at the harbour. A tour guide for these routes can be accessed via your mobile phone. Download the GeoQuestor app to see where the routes take you.
Bicycle and SUP Board Rental
The harbour offers bicycle rentals, including two electric bikes. Regular bikes are free of charge, while the two electric bikes can be rented on a daily basis for 100 DKK. The bikes and electric bikes must be returned between 5 and 6 p.m. at the harbour office. SUP boards cost 50 DKK per day.
Summer Music at the Harbour
Every Friday and Saturday throughout the summer, there is free music at the harbour. The annual Meatball Festival in July is the highlight of the summer. Read about the summer music program and more events below.
Excursions
Tranekær Castle and Medicinal Gardens just a bike ride from the harbour.
A fantastic excursion is to Tranekær Castle and the Medicinal Gardens, located about 10 km from the harbour by bike. Explore a highly scenic castle town with old houses, a castle, and a church. Here you will also find the historic Medicinal Gardens with more than 450 different plants, either significant for modern medicine or used in traditional folk medicine.
In the old yellow theater building in front of the castle is the Souvenariet, a museum for souvenirs from all over the world. Enjoy a refreshment before heading back at the restaurant Generalen, housed in the old manor stables. The castle park is filled with the art form "Land Art," and on the grass near Tranekær Castle lives a herd of Langeland's wild horses. These are Exmoor ponies that thrive beyond expectations and are believed to be descendants of Europe's original wild horses, which became extinct back in the 1870s.
Skovsgaard Estate
Visit the fascinating organic estate Skovsgaard. The estate includes a café, an exhibition space, and a shop. In the estate's historic main building, there is an exhibition on how landowners and servants lived in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Langeland Tractor and Machinery Collection Association exhibits at the estate, representing a bygone era in agricultural history.
Galleries and Handicrafts
Just 1 km from the harbour lies a working willow workshop, where beautiful unique items are made. If you're into art, there are small galleries and craftspeople near the harbour.
