Despite challenges with siltation, the harbour has undergone several expansions and has become a popular base for recreational sailors. Although commercial fishing is a thing of the past, the harbour remains a lively and historical landmark.

Espergærde also offers a wide range of dining options, kiosks, fashion stores, and hairdressers located right by the harbour. Just 1 km inland, you’ll find Espergærde Center, which features 39 specialty shops and 3 supermarkets.
