Hikes on Hindsgavl Peninsula
The coastline shifts between open plains, old forest and salt marsh, and from your very first steps you can hear the waves of the Little Belt hitting the shore. Hindsgavl Peninsula near Middelfart offers varied nature, coastal stretches, Hindsgavl Deer Park and Naturcenter Hindsgavl. Forest, coast and manor landscape all meet on a single peninsula.
The classic route goes right around the headland: starting on Algade, you follow the whole peninsula: past Kongebrogården, under the Old Little Belt Bridge, along the coast at Gals Klint and down to Hindsgavl Castle Park, ending back in Middelfart town. The route is about 11 km and takes around 3 hours.
The blue trail, 9.6 km, takes you along the coast on the north side of the peninsula, past the rampart and Gals Klint, and on through forest, the deer park and Øksenrade Skov, back to the town centre. The walk takes about 2.5 hours.
If you have less time, choose the red trail, 6 km, crossing the peninsula. Here you pass the Old Little Belt Bridge, walk by the deer park and through Krybeskov. The walk takes about 1.5 hours.
In the deer park you meet red and fallow deer grazing freely on the plains and at the forest edge. The animals are the landscape’s own caretakers: their grazing keeps the plains open and preserves the character of the manor landscape.
As part of Hike and Bike Friends, you’ll find water refill points, bike pumps and toilets at several spots along the route, making the trip easy to plan whether you walk or cycle.
