In the Footsteps of Pilgrims – Family Walk in Hillerød South

Discover the landscape

On the walk, you will discover how stories from the past can still be found in the landscape around Favrholm. Along the way, you will pass the vanished medieval village of Egespur, the Bronze Age burial mound of Pukhøj and the old canal system built under Frederick II.

Choose between two routes

Choose between the shorter 5-kilometre family route and the longer 12-kilometre route. Both routes take you to cultural and historical points of interest, where guides and volunteers share stories about the people, places and events that have left their mark on the landscape.

A walk full of stories and surprises

Along the way, you will pass the old Favrholm watermill system and Salpetermosen, where discoveries of bog bodies reveal dramatic stories from the past. As a small memento, all participants receive a replica of an Ave Maria amulet, inspired by an archaeological find from Egespur.

Part of a European pilgrimage route

The walk follows a small section of the Danish pilgrimage route, which has been connected to the major European pilgrimage routes to destinations including Santiago de Compostela, Rome and Jerusalem since the Middle Ages. Enjoy fresh air, a sense of community and fascinating insights into Hillerød’s history – from the Bronze Age to the present day.
