Hou Beach

One of the loveliest beaches on the Odder Coast

Beautifully situated by the calm waters of Kattegat, Hou Beach is a wonderful sandy beach perfect for families with children. A wooden bathing jetty stretches into the water, and there are toilet facilities on site—including a wheelchair-accessible restroom. The beach is an extension of Hou Harbour, which comes alive in the summer with a lively, welcoming atmosphere. Here, you can stock up on supplies, enjoy a meal at the harbour café, or cool off with an ice cream in the sun.

The waters at Hou Beach are shallow and typically calm, with little wind—ideal for children to play safely at the water's edge, without concerns about waves or sudden drops. Hou Beach is certified with three stars under the White Flag bathing water standard—your guarantee of excellent water quality and high safety standards.

If you continue north along the coast, you’ll reach Hou North Beach, home to Hou Strandcamping. Here you’ll find another wooden jetty and access to the campsite’s facilities, including pay-to-use toilets.

A day in Hou

Hou is known for its large marina and ferry port, with departures to the idyllic holiday islands of Tunø and Samsø. A scenic path follows the shoreline around the harbour, making it easy to enjoy a walk by the sea.

You can also explore the area on the Coastal Trail in Hou, a 10-kilometre circular hiking route that leads you through the town and along the beautiful coastline.

Is the raining?

No worries! Just behind Hou North Beach is the public swimming facility Vandhalla, where you can enjoy a swim—rain or shine. This indoor pool is fully accessible and features a 90-metre water slide, among other fun features.

Stay Overnight by the Beach

You can spend the night right by the water at Hou Strandcamping, or in a holiday home at Hou Søsportcenter. Hou is the perfect base for a classic coastal getaway—close to the beach, harbour, islands, and many of East Jutland’s top attractions and cities.
