Viking Tales - Vejle Fjord

When you sail towards Vejle fjord, your keel will carry you straight into the heart of the mightiest Viking Empire in the world, the house of the Jelling-clan.

Vejle fjord is long, and stretches for miles deep inside the jutish landscape. In the Viking age, the fjord ended in a series of secret rivers and wetlands, that could take the Viking ships straight up to the kings main fortress, at Jelling.

It is in this Fjord that mighty Viking fleets, like the Jomsborg guard, would enter after raiding in England ore in the Baltic, to report back and share their newly won treasures with the Jelling-king, and everyday new merchant ships from Danelagen, Dublin and Normandy, would arrive with more wealth and power for the kings of Jelling.

Vejle Fjord was among the best protected of all the Danish navy bases, and when you come ashore along the coastline of the fjord, you will quickly discover the old traces of the Viking guard forts.

At Rosenvold harbor, on the northern entrance of the fjord, you can find the “Staksevold” which is the ruins of both a Viking base and a stonecastle from the middle ages.

A bit further in, on the southern side of the Fjord, you find Brejning Harbour, which holds the ruins of “Trindvolden”, a viking fort and navalbase. So set your sails for an adventure, and follow the dragon ships, into the heart of the Viking Empire.
