Morning at the Museum in Hillerød | Local history for children and families

A morning designed for families

“Morning at the Museum” is created especially for young children and their accompanying adults. Families can enjoy a calm and cosy start to the day in the museum’s historic setting, with plenty of space for curiosity, play, and togetherness across generations.

After breakfast, you are invited to explore the exhibitions and discover Hillerød’s history through activities tailored for children.

Step into Time Street

The museum’s popular “Time Street” exhibition recreates everyday life in Hillerød during the 1960s. The interactive street environment invites children and adults alike to explore history through play.

Play like in the old days

Children can:

  • Sit in the chair at the old-fashioned barber shop
  • Visit the toy shop
  • Play with vintage toys
  • Try being a shopkeeper using the historic cash register

Adults are encouraged to join in and share the experience.

Local history told for children

During the morning, visitors can join a short guided tour introducing the history of Hillerød through stories and experiences designed for younger audiences.

Activities for different ages

The museum offers activities suited to both younger and older children. Older children can complete small tasks around the exhibition, spot familiar everyday objects, and take part in creative activities inspired by local history. A cosy corner with blankets, cushions, and building blocks provides a quiet space for the youngest children to play and relax.

Café and relaxed surroundings

The museum café remains open throughout the day, serving coffee, tea, and cold drinks in the museum’s welcoming historic atmosphere.
