Along the route
On the Blue Clover Leaf Trail in Bogense, you get a wonderful view from the path along the coast and past the beautiful church. From here, you can see all the way to Jutland and Endelave – and closer by, you can see the birdlife on Mågeøerne and the wooded island of Æbelø.
The dyke route
The route is also known as the dyke route, because it follows the old dyke. The North Funen coast was once full of small islands and fjords, but this whole area was reclaimed. Today, the former seabed is farmland, salt meadow and home to different houses.
Pump mills were used to help pump water away from the area. Stegø Mill on the former island of Stegø is one of these old pump mills. It has been rebuilt after a fire and can be seen from the outside.
Close by, there is a path along the old irrigation canal. If you follow it, you come to the bird tower at Dæmningsminde, where you can look out across part of the large nature restoration project Gyldensteen Strand. In 2014, the dykes were removed here and the water was allowed back in, after the area had been reclaimed since 1871. There is no longer farming here, and wildlife and birdlife have returned in abundance.
Fredskoven
The route continues along the farm track and into Fredskoven beneath the tall old trees. Part of the woodland is more than 200 years old. There are several playgrounds and outdoor fitness areas in the woods, if you fancy trying a little crossfit, for example.
The route follows Bogense Bybæk. If you are quiet, you may be able to spot sea trout and otters in the stream. From there, the route continues through the old part of Bogense and back to the harbour.
Food and drink
Bogense has many cafés and places to eat, giving you plenty of options for something tasty to eat and drink. There are also lots of shops where you can buy snacks for the trip.
There are benches in several places along the route, and at the harbour and marina you will find tables and benches where you can sit down for a break.
