The entrance to the beautiful harbour of Nykøbing Sjælland makes a lovely picture.
On a course straight towards the harbour, you can make out the red terraced houses at Nykøbing Harbour. Soon you’ll be in harbour.
On the starboard side you can see the nature reserve on Nakkehalvøen peninsula with the Ringholmen castle building facing the water. On the port side the beautiful coastline with the buildings Kildehusene or Anneberg manor facing the water. The forest forms the backdrop of this excellent harbour that lies sheltered in the Issefjord. The sea water is salt and fresh, this close to the mouth to the Kattegat.
The marina welcomes everyone
The ship’s dog can immediately be taken for a walk in the forest. Provisions and ice cream can be purchased in the cozy harbour kiosk, and larger purchases can be made only 500 metres from the harbour. Take a walk along the water on Kulturstien - the Culture Path - heading west towards the village Egebjerg. You will immediately be able to see the beautiful Anneberg manor up on the hill, which is home to a unique glass exhibition and the Michelin restaurant MOTA. In the area known as the Anneberg Cultural Park you will find many sights and a cozy cafe.
Harbour atmosphere and good amenities
Later in the day you can choose one of the well-placed barbecue areas at the harbour and cook a summer meal in the harbour kitchen and at the barbecue. Your service building includes a kitchen, shower facilities and toilets. While in the kitchen you can look across the harbour: are there children at the playground and parents lighting up the barbecues?
Explore the harbour’s many halls where artists set up exhibitions throughout the summer.
When dusk falls, you can see the lights from the jetties and by the charming red fishermen’s cottages. Take an evening stroll to the southern deck where you can walk all the way out onto the pier-head, sit down and enjoy the view across the water as the lighthouse turns on its red flash.
An authentic market town by the harbour
Near the harbour, to the east, is Nykøbing Sjælland itself, an authentic market town. It is a town that is perfectly geared to all its holiday visitors with numerous experiences. The wide and festive pedestrian street with outdoor dining is teeming with life and activity. The town offers many shopping options as well as the Odsherred Theatre.
The harbour is the starting point of the “Culture Path”, which you can read more about here.
