Tourist in Frederikssund
Welcome to Frederikssund Culture Harbor, a municipal harbor located in the center of Frederikssund township.
In the past few hundred years, Frederikssund has experienced significant growth. Once a small harbor town, it has grown to become one of North Zealand's largest towns. Getting to Copenhagen is easy—just take the S-train from Frederikssund for a quick trip to the capital.
Frederikssund offers a wealth of opportunities for everyone. You can take long walks along Roskilde Fjord or stroll through the main street, which features plenty of exciting shops. Cyclists can enjoy beautiful rides with scenic views along the fjords, on the famous Fjord Path. In the evening, enjoy a cold glass of wine at one of Frederikssund’s many restaurants with a view of the fjord.
Nature
If you prefer forests and nature, cross Kronprins Frederiks Bro and head over to Nordskoven. Nordskoven offers many long and scenic trails, all clearly marked so you can choose a route that suits you. The forest is also known for some of Denmark's oldest trees, standing since the time when Vikings roamed the woods. In Nordskoven, you can visit Bredvig Bog, an ancient bog that has remained untouched, with no trees cut or new ones planted.
Visit One of North Zealand’s Largest Shopping Centers
For those interested in shopping, Frederikssund has you covered. In the town center, you’ll find Sillebroen, one of North Zealand’s largest shopping centers. With over 65 stores in modern and welcoming surroundings, it’s a great experience for the whole family.
Sillebroen is easy to reach, either by public transport—the station both bus or train is just 100 meters from the center—or by car, with a large, free parking area connected to the shopping center.
Bring the whole family on a journey back to the Viking Age. On the outskirts of Frederikssund, you’ll find the Viking settlement, where, during the summer, Vikings and other townsfolk gather. Around the grounds, replicas of old Viking houses have been built, and by the harbor, you can find Viking ships.
Various activities take place around the grounds during the summer, allowing both children and adults to experience what it was like to live in the Viking Age. Try activities like sword fighting with real swords or baking your own flatbread from scratch.
In the evenings, Vikings take the stage for the annual Viking play, which runs every evening throughout the summer. Experience one of Denmark's largest and oldest open-air theaters, where you’ll be transported back to a time of warriors and real-life heroes. It’s both an entertaining and educational experience for the whole family.
If you want even more history, you can take a quick trip to the ferry master's house, where the ferry master once helped travelers cross Roskilde Fjord. The ferry has since been replaced by a bridge, but the ferry house remains. Today, it serves as a medieval museum, offering a fantastic opportunity for both children and adults to explore history and learn more about how Denmark has developed since the Middle Ages.
Art in the Heart of Frederikssund
If you’re more interested in art, you’ll find J.F. Willumsen Museum just a 10-minute walk from the center of Frederikssund, which displays beautiful art in a new, spacious setting.
Various exhibitions are held here, often lasting 2-3 months, with some areas specially dedicated to the works of J.F. Willumsen. For fans of J.F. Willumsen, there is always something to look forward to.
