Frederikssund Kulturhavn

Tourist in Frederikssund

Welcome to Frederikssund Cultural Harbour, a municipal harbour located in the center of Frederikssund town.

Over the past few hundred years, Frederikssund has experienced tremendous growth. From being a small port town, it has grown into one of North Zealand’s largest cities. It’s easy to reach Copenhagen via the S-train that runs from Frederikssund if you want a quick visit to the capital.

The town of Frederikssund offers a wealth of opportunities, with something for everyone. You can take long walks along Roskilde Fjord or stroll down the pedestrian street, which boasts a range of exciting shops. In the evening, you can enjoy a cold glass of wine at one of Frederikssund’s many restaurants with a view of the fjord.

Nature

If you prefer forests and nature, head over Kronprins Frederiks Bridge to Nordskoven (the Northern Forest). Nordskoven offers many long and interesting walking routes, clearly marked so you can choose a path that suits you. Additionally, Nordskoven is known for having some of Denmark’s oldest trees, which have been standing since the time of the Vikings. You can also visit Bredvig Mose in Nordskoven, which has remained untouched since ancient times, with no trees being felled or planted.

Visit one of North Zealand’s largest Shopping Centers

If shopping is more your style, there are options for that as well. In the center of Frederikssund, you’ll find Sillebroen, North Zealand’s largest shopping center. With 65 diverse stores in new and stylish premises, it guarantees a great experience for the whole family.

Sillebroen is easily accessible by public transport from the station, which is 100 meters away from the center. Alternatively, you can drive and use the large, free parking garage built in connection with Sillebroen.

Travel back to Viking Times

Take the whole family on a journey back to Viking times. On the outskirts of Frederikssund, you’ll find the Viking settlement, which is bustling with Vikings and other folks during the summer season. The area features reconstructed Viking houses, and Viking ships are docked at the harbor.

Throughout the summer, various activities take place where both children and adults can experience life as it was in Viking times. Try your hand at fighting with real swords or baking your own flatbread from scratch.

In the evening, the Vikings take the stage for the annual Viking play, which runs every night throughout the summer. Experience one of Denmark’s largest and oldest outdoor theatres, where you’ll be transported back to a time when men were men and real warriors lived. It’s both an entertaining and educational experience for the whole family.

If you want even more history, you can also visit the ferry house where the ferry master used to assist travelers crossing Roskilde Fjord. While the ferry master has been replaced by a bridge, the Ferry House still stands. Today, the Ferry House has been transformed into a medieval museum, offering ample opportunities for both children and adults to explore our history and learn more about how Denmark has evolved since the Middle Ages.

Art in the heart of Frederikssund

If art is more your interest, Frederikssund has that too. Just a 10-minute walk from the center of Frederikssund, you’ll find the JF Willumsen Museum, showcasing fine art in new, spacious premises. Various exhibitions are held here, often running for 2-3 months, and while they may not be exclusively focused on JF Willumsen’s work, there is always something for fans of Willumsen to enjoy.
