Welcome to Augustenborg Harbour
In idyllic surroundings by Augustenborg Fjord lies Augustenborg Harbour, close to the town center. Augustenborg Harbour is the long quay extending from the main road to the marina and situated in front of the large silos. The harbour is ideal for vessels seeking alongside berths close to the center, which features charming shops, a bakery, delicatessens, and grocery stores. From the harbour, it’s only a short distance to Augustenborg Castle and the Castle Church, both of which are definitely worth a visit. During the summer and autumn holidays, guided tours of Augustenborg Castle are organized. In the castle park, you can enjoy the beautiful sculptures in the Sculpture Park Augustiana. The castle park is open to the public.
Augustenborg is a cozy harbor town – famous for Augustenborg Castle, which is perhaps the most beautiful baroque castle in Denmark and now houses the administration for agriculture and fisheries. In the castle park, you can rest under the same lime tree where H.C. Andersen once sat in the shade when he visited the castle. Perhaps he drew inspiration for the fairy tale "The Little Match Girl" right here.
Throughout the summer, many concerts are held in the castle park. The Castle Church is thoroughly a princely chapel. The beautiful marble floor, the extravagant stucco decorations, and the prominent wooden carvings gilded with gold leaf are testimonies to the wealth of earlier times. The small museum at the bell tower offers insights into the history of the ducal family. Denmark’s largest sculpture park, Augustina, is directly adjacent to the castle and is a delightful destination for the whole family. The palace hosts art exhibitions, and the park is directly by the fjord – those with swimwear can jump directly into the water from the protected swimming facility.
