About the harbor

Welcome to Augustenborg Harbour

Set in idyllic surroundings by Augustenborg Fjord, Augustenborg Harbour is located close to the town centre. Augustenborg Harbour is the long quay that stretches from the main road to the marina and runs in front the large silos. The harbour is ideal for boats looking for alongside berths by the quay near the town centre, where you can find charming shops, a bakery, specialty stores and grocery stores. From the harbour, it is only a short walk to Augustenborg Castle and the Castle Church, both of which are must-see locations. During the summer and autumn holidays, you can join guided tours of the beautiful Augustenborg Castle. In the castle grounds, you can admire the stunning sculptures in the Augustiana Art Park. The castle grounds are open to the public.

Augustenborg is a charming harbour town – famous for Augustenborg Castle; arguably the most beautiful Baroque castle in Denmark and today home to the Danish Agricultural Agency. In the castle grounds, you can rest in the shade of the same linden tree where iconic Danish author H.C. Andersen used to sit when he visited the castle. Perhaps he found the inspiration for his classic fairy tale "The Little Match Girl", sitting under this very tree.

During the summer, the castle grounds host a series of concerts. The Castle Church is a true princely church. The beautiful marble floor, the lavish stucco decorations and the striking wood carvings adorned with gold leaf bear witness to the wealth of bygone days. The small museum by the bell tower offers insight into the history of the ducal family. Augustina, Denmark’s largest sculpture park, is situated next to the castle and makes for a lovely day out for the whole family. The mansion hosts art exhibitions, and the park is situated right by the fjord – if you bring your swimwear, you can jump straight into the water from the sheltered bathing area.
