Oyster Safari at the Limfjord – catch, open and taste oysters straight from the fjord

Wearing waders with water around your legs, you venture out into the Limfjord in search of oysters.

Here you feel the seabed beneath your feet, and the oysters are found by hand – right where they live.

The tour starts at Dansk Skaldyrcenter, where participants put on waders and head out to the fjord.

Here, both Pacific oysters and European flat oysters are sought in shallow water.

Along the way, participants learn about oysters, their living conditions and the other wildlife in the Limfjord.

Participants also encounter other species in the water, contributing to an understanding of the fjord's ecosystem.

Practical advice is given on how to open and prepare oysters.

The focus is on handling, technique and taste, so the ingredient can be used afterwards.

Tasting with wine and the option to take your catch home

After the tour, participants gather again at Dansk Skaldyrcenter, where the day's catch is enjoyed natural alongside a glass of wine.

The oysters collected along the way can be taken home, and recipes are provided.

Practical equipment and recommendations for the tour

Waders, buckets and nets are available in various sizes.

It is recommended to bring weather-appropriate clothing as well as a towel and a change of clothes, as you may get wet.

Duration: approx. 2 hours.

Season: February, March, April, October and November.

Minimum number of participants: 14 persons.

The event may be cancelled in the event of toxic algae blooms.
