Doverodde Havn
About the harbor
Information for visiting sailors!
From the moment you enter Doverodde, you will experience the world-class sights the area has to offer. Enjoy spectacular views of the 7,000–8,000-year-old Stone Age coastal cliffs along the route. The district of Thy offers fantastic opportunities for getting up close to its nature and history. The area is home to Denmark’s largest cluster of burial mounds and Denmark’s first-ever national park.
Doverodde Harbour is beautifully situated in the western part of the Limfjord, an area of outstanding natural beauty and culture-historical interest. Just 6.5 km from the harbour you can visit the market town of Hurup, with a pedestrian street and a wide range of specialty stores.
Great harbour atmosphere
During the sailing season, Doverodde Harbour is bustling with life and activities for both children and adults. You will find cozy barbecue areas, sights and a nice, authentic harbour atmosphere.
Just a five-minute walk from the harbour, you can visit the beautiful, well-preserved merchant’s house, established in 1848, featuring an original jetty from a time when Doverodde Harbour was a hub for the Danish grain and livestock trade with England. Back then, ships would depart every day to sail across the North Sea, between Doverodde and England. The National Gallery of Denmark (SMK) has a branch in Doverodde, which has already gained international recognition and has been named by TIME Magazine as one of the world’s best destinations.
SMK Thy has set up a restaurant in the old merchant’s house on the harbour called Centralen. Read more on the SMK THY website
Naturlandsbyen - “The Nature Village” – is another new attraction near the harbour, offering a nature workshop, a kayak hotel, campfire huts, a community centre and equipment stores. If you are interested in viking ships, Naturlandsbyen is an absolute must-see when you visit Doverodde. Learn more
Harbour fees
The harbour master’s duties are carried out by Sydthy Bådelaug (sydthybaadelaug.dk), who can be contacted on +45 2335 5056 between 8 am and 8 pm. The harbour is a part of the Free Port Organization.
Free port members pay DKK 65.00 per day; other visiting sailors pay DKK 150.00 per day, including environmental charges. Harbour fees can be paid via TallyWeb by scanning the QR code displayed on the power pedestals on the harbour. There is free Wi-Fi in the harbour area.
Great harbour facilities
The harbour association’s clubhouse and guest lounge, “Hyttefadet”, features a television and a well-stocked kitchen. The coffee machine, dishwasher, cooking range, freezer, cutlery, glasses etc., are all available for you to use. We do, of course, ask that you tidy up after yourself. The Wi-Fi password is posted on the noticeboard in the lounge. You will find the harbour’s toilet and shower facilities at Hyttefadet.
Outside the clubhouse, you can enjoy the view of the fjord from the lovely terrace, which is equipped with tables, benches and a barbecue, so you can cook any food you may have packed.
Activities and excursions
The area is perfect for hiking. A popular route is the pleasant 2.2 km Doverodde route, which takes you through the park of the merchant’s house, the holiday home area and down through the village along the ‘Path of Love’, offering splendid views of the fjord. Also worth a visit is the Dover Plantation with its ancient burial mounds.
Motorhomes
Motorhomes may park in the 5 designated spaces in the harbour car park. There is no reservation system for these parking spots, so they are always first come, first served.
Harbour regulations
Doverodde Harbour is closed for the winter from the autumn half-term holiday (mid October) until right before the Easter holiday, during which time the harbour’s facilities are closed. Electricity is available for purchase all year round.
